12 Days to Deming – Active Learning
Enrolments for this free (yet profoundly valuable) program are taken all year round. To Enrol or Enquire, click the button, fill in the form, and we’ll promptly get back to you with details about the next commencement date.
This study program consists of the 12 Days to Deming Active Learning Course created by Dr. Henry Neave, author of The Deming Dimension. There are facilitated online group sessions where participants share their learnings and insights. Participants are welcome to stay online longer to continue discussion if desired.
The sessions are weekly and 1 hour long. There are currently separate morning (8am to 9am) and afternoon (5pm to 6pm) sessions (AEST/AEDT).
The material is arranged for self-study. The expectation is that you will complete the study for a particular day, and exchange thoughts, insights, concerns, experiences, etc, with the broader group.
Presenters
We are delighted to be joined in the group study sessions by Dr. Jackie Graham who had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Deming and Dr. Neave. Jackie will mentor us as we progress through the course.
The study sessions will be facilitated by Richard Hamilton and Jenny Perks and conducted using Microsoft Teams. The sessions will be recorded and be available for the group and Dr Henry Neave, and Andrei Cojoaca, (coordinator of our sister study group based in Canada).
Dr. Deming and Dr. Neave
Dr. W. Edwards Deming (1900–1993) revolutionised the meaning of quality and business improvement. He is renowned for his work in Japan in the 1950s and in the West from the early 1980s. His work was ahead of his time and his principles are at least as valid for today’s business world as they were during his lifetime.
Dr. Henry Neave was the W. Edwards Deming Professor of Leadership & Management in the Business School of Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom. In 2001, he received the American Society for Quality’s Deming Medal, he is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute, and is the author of The Deming Dimension. He had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Deming at many of his four-day seminars, as well as conducting many of his own in various parts of the world.
Session 1: Introduction
AMA [Ask Me Anything]. At this session, we will confirm logistics, meet fellow students, share what we would like from 12 Days to Deming, and maybe share a little of ourselves. We will discuss the ‘PLEASE START HERE’ document. Please allow 90 minutes for the initial meeting.
Sessions 2-13: 12 Days to Deming
Each Thursday, the material is arranged in a particular order to facilitate your grasping of concepts before moving to the next. Each session covers one day of the material. It is mandatory to read the material of a given study day, prior to the group discussion. It can be useful to study one day ahead, however, it is not generally recommended to study too far ahead of the group. This is an active learning course and there will be opportunity to challenge your thinking within the embedded activities. The 13th day concludes a Q & A for statistics, and a final wrap up/concluding remarks from Dr Jackie Graham.
