School Responsibilities

1. Inform the school community of the program at an appropriate forum. Explain that students will be absent from classes for six and a half days.
2. Advertise the program to students at a Year 11 assembly or target a particular subject or subject/s. Invite student interest and involvement.
3. Distribute application forms to students, explain criteria if necessary, collect application forms by date set.
4. Arrange with host facilitator to interview applicants. Even though there may be "just enough" applicants to fill the team, the interview process is important as it provides students with an experience of an interview situation. Furthermore it gives the host facilitator an opportunity to assess the students. Select successful applicants.
5. Curriculum recognition of Q-Ed Team. A common issue raised by parents is how will this activity impact on the student’s workload and other studies.
6. Ensure staff are aware of which students will be involved in the program and provide dates for when the students will be absent.
7. Inform the parents of students at a Parent Information Session the details of the Q-Ed Team program. This will also provide an opportunity for parents to ask any questions and make transport arrangements for the training day and the Q-Ed week.
8. Ensure that all paper work is complete ie. approved excursion/absence forms, Work Experience Arrangement Form. Collect Arrangement Forms and forward them to the host facilitator.
9. Attend Training Day.
10. Make contact with students at the workplace to show interest and to demonstrate support.
11. Attend Presentation on final day of program. Invite the Principal, school council representative and/or subject teacher to attend.
12. Arrange for the students to write an article for the newsletter and magazine. Encourage the students to photograph their work throughout the program.
13. Transport is entirely the responsibility of the student. School representative and host facilitator are not responsible for arranging transport for students involved.
14. Dress Code - students are expected to abide by the dress code of the host organisation.
15. Attendance - students must inform the host facilitator and the school of any absence. If a student does not arrive at the workplace on any day and has not contacted the host facilitator, then the facilitator should contact the school representative.
16. Organise de-briefing of students.
17. Communicate to the wider community the Q-Ed Team activities via newsletters, school magazine, school assembly etc.
